About Me

I currently live in South Surrey, BC, with my husband. We are blessed with two sons and four grandchildren. My international journey includes living and working in England, Lesotho, Germany, and Canada. Born and raised in England, I started my teaching career there. Two years ago, I retired from the Delta School District. My first children's chapter book, 'Noah's Universe', was published on June 6, 2023.

                        About My Book

Noah’s Universe is a fictional tale that addresses challenging themes like grief, diversity, complex emotions, bullying, and the trials of growing up. It also unfolds as a story of redemption, adventure, and friendship. This makes it ideal for young readers aged 9-12, who are exploring their identity and self-esteem. This book marks the beginning of my upcoming 'Ducks Down' series.

In the quiet village of Ducks Down, young Noah grapples with his father's death. His life takes a turn when he meets Pretzel, a mysterious visitor from the cosmos. Through adventures with Pretzel, Noah learns about bravery and prepares for a mission demanding unprecedented courage.

The book weaves various themes throughout its narrative. For a detailed exploration of these themes, I invite educators to visit my website and view the Teacher's notes.

"The kindness project that Noah and his friends undertake had me hoping that this book makes it into every ten-year-old's classroom! This would be an excellent read-aloud for the start of the year, with many opportunities to guess what might happen next. I hope the author decides to do ideas for the classroom teacher, as small group drama and social studies activities would be amazing. This is set in a small town in Britain, but has a universal theme that any young person can relate to. I will be waiting to see how Noah meets his next challenge!"

About my school visit

During my author visits, I engage the students with various aspects of my writing journey and the creative process.

Here's what I cover:

  • Inspiration: I delve into what inspired me to write my book and the origins of my ideas.

  • Plot Development: I emphasize the importance of crafting a compelling plot.

  • Voice and Uniqueness: I discuss the significance of a unique voice in writing and encourage students to embrace their individuality.

  • The Publishing Process: I share insights into editing a book and the journey to getting it published.

  • Interactive Q&A: I allocate time for questions and answers to engage with the students.

To bring my points to life, I use excerpts from my book,  alongside projected images and music, during the presentation.

DetailsThe presentation lasts approximately 45 minutes, including a Q&A session.

Target Audience: While the presentation is suitable for all intermediate students, it is particularly ideal for grade 4 and 5 students.
